I think I have the best commute route ever. I've said it once and I'll say it again and again, but now I will explain why.
First, the distance is perfect, an average all round total distance of 42km. 19km one way to work and the rest depends on the route I take home after work.
To some people, 19km one way sounds like a long distance, but it's not if you live in the Black Forest with countless beautiful cycle ways to choose from that offer endless scenic views that are eye candy for the soul.
The fact that I can cycle to work without having to cycle more than 5 minutes on a road is inspiration enough for me to get up super early in the morning and walk my dogs at the ungodly hour of 5.00 in the morning, I do not miss the stress of traffic or traffic jams that just seem to crush my mood before the working day has even started. Watching the sun rise, the mystical sights of early morning mist on forest trails are the perfect start to the day after a strong coffee.
The route I take to and from work leads me through the Glasbachtal which is cold and misty even in the middle of summer, through apple orchards, along endless forest trails that smell of pine, past isolated farms, open fields, butterfly gardens, the odd lake and picnic spot in Königsfeld as well as, and very importantly, past bakeries where I can stop for coffee and cake on the way home or even an ice cream in the park. Finally, I should not forget to mention all the wildlife and animals I encounter and that even winter with snow and rainy days has its charm.
What's very important for me is that I can shower and change at work, otherwise commuting would not be fun, I'm very thankful that I can do that.
Who can ask for more?
