Day 12 Saint Gaultier to Chauvigny

This is our last day camping, tomorrow we will do a final big push to reach Amailloux, 100km, a little sad now that our journey’s almost over.

Today we followed a Velo vert route for 60km, along the way we were ambushed and attacked by millions of horseflies!! Little buggers followed us in our slip stream and today we had one because motivation was exceedingly high to get away from those things! They actually hitchhiked on our bike and bags. Christoph said it was like a horror movie! Luckily we were only bitten once each. I think they’re a bit stupid and cannot latch on if you’re moving, so move we did and used half a bottle of mosquito repellent even though they aren’t mosquitoes.

Again it was a super hot day, luckily the Velo vert route was through forest so we had shade and bugs.

Along the way we quenched our thirst again with a beer at Saint Savin before going in to the Abby Church to explore the biblical murals. We took a digital guided tour which was really good otherwise we would have missed the bearded Eve, a big cockup from restoration work some hundred years ago 😂

Tonight we’re sleeping under the medieval ramparts of Chauvigny, another steep town, poor pudding legs! We’re staying again in a municipal campsite, this one’s really busy, but still not full, when we arrived we saw a fridge with cold beer, it was very important to down one after checking in and before finding a place to pitch our tent😉
